Retrieving Workshop with Instructor Theresa Richmond
February 20th
10:00 am to Noon
Retrieve – This workshop is designed for dogs with a reliable recall or those able to work on leash. Toy play skills are helpful. Please bring a dumbbell if you have one, along with treats.
In this workshop, we will focus on the fundamentals and mechanics of the obedience dumbbell retrieve. Dogs that are new to retrieving will be introduced to the dumbbell through play-based exercises, with the goal of encouraging a voluntary pickup. Progress will be based on each dog’s comfort level and willingness to pick up and hold the dumbbell.
Dogs with a basic retrieve already in place will work on strengthening reliable returns to the handler and refining essential retrieve skills, including proper holding (no chewing) and a consistent, clean release. This workshop is suited for dogs of all ages.
